More Than Human

Discovering the Truth of Being A New Creation in Christ

Friend, have we forgotten that we are not just saved from sin, but born into an entirely new kind of life?

Recently, I've been contemplating how God has given us gifts, but we can not function in them correctly when we are carnally minded. The gifts of the Spirit are not toys but powerful tools, entrusted to us to build up the body of Christ.

“And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.” I Corinthians 3:1.

“I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;” I Corinthians 3:2.

For you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?” I Corinthians 3:3.

It is the last four words that halted me.  Paul is speaking to Christians, yet he then makes this statement that, though they have been delivered, they are walking in a way that is contrary to their calling.  They are behaving naturally  (carnal) instead of embracing what is available to them, that of walking in the Spirit.

It is absolutely possible to live in the midst of deliverance yet never walk in it. To be surrounded by the reality of the promise yet never experience the manifestation. This has nothing to do with whether or not one is a Christian; it has everything to do with walking victoriously.

A strong word for today.

When we act within the limits of our humanity, we are bound by natural things. The carnal mind lives by what it sees, feels, and experiences, reacting often in the flesh, whether in word or deed.

And let us pause here: in word.  Because what leaves our mouths often reveals what rules our hearts. Our speech shapes our reality, not by magic but by faith—whether in truth or in unbelief. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34).

The carnal mind declares limitation because it believes the limitations. But the Spirit-filled mind confesses life, hope, and victory because it believes in the One who is Life Himself.  This isn't name it and claim,  it is bold faith, which stands on the shoulders of quiet trust.

This is a strong word because we stand in a pivotal moment in time—one that is eclipsing eternity.

Let us not forget to Whom we have been betrothed. Our Bridegroom is near, and the Spirit has sealed us for such a time as this. We are not called to ourselves but to the One who loved us and gave Himself for us. Shall we not live for Him?

The life Jesus died to give us is not a treasure to hoard but a witness that He is God, that He lives, and that He saves. Our lives are to provoke the hearts of those who have yet to know Him.

When we dim our light by living as mere humans, we squander the very gift entrusted to us. It is like the servant in Jesus’ parable who buried his talent instead of investing it (Matthew 25:25).

Often, when we stumble or feel weak, we excuse ourselves with the phrase: “Well, it’s because we’re only human.” But consider the context when we say this. More often than not, it comes in moments of falling short.  This doesn't mean we are perfect. What it means is that each moment we decide again to live surrendered to the Spirit and the Lordship of Jesus.

Jesus knows our frame. “He remembers that we are dust” Psalm 103:14.  But friends, this is precisely why He came. Not to leave us bound to human weakness, but to lift us to partake of His life, to walk as He is right now, right here.

It is an audacious call, and we've been given audacious faith and the Spirit who makes the impossible not probable but infallible!

Remember, with God, it is not a matter of chance but of certainty. His Word cannot fail, His promises cannot break, His Spirit cannot lie. What He has spoken, He will surely bring to pass.

And this is not to say that we are void of our humanity, but here is the thing… we aren't to live subject to it.

Therein lies the difference.

Jesus became a Man not so we could remain as humans, He bore our frailty so we would be clothed in His strength. He carried our sin so we would be restored to a right relationship with the Father and walk as new creations in Him.

Jesus broke the mold that was encapsulated in the first Adam. Jesus is the second and the final Adam. He is the first fruits of a new creation. He is the firstborn of the dead, which emphasizes that His resurrection was not like Lazarus's, but the inauguration of a new kind of ‘be-ing’immortal, glorified, and never to die again.  His resurrection is the blueprint, the very prototype of a new race.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (καινὴ κτίσις, kainē ktisis); the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.”  2 Corinthians 5:17.

Greek Roots with Eternal Truths

καινὴ (kainē)

Means new in kind or quality, not merely new in time (neos).

Implies something fresh, unprecedented, and never seen before.

In Christ, we are not just a “polished-up, rebrand” version of ourselves; we are something entirely different, transformed in nature.

κτίσις (ktisis)

It implies a radical act of God bringing into existence something that did not exist before.

καινὴ κτίσις is a brand-new order of being, divinely created by God, through union with Christ.

The Greek tense here (parēlthen) is in the aorist tense—a decisive, completed act. At salvation, the old nature, the old bondage, passed away once and for all. We essentially died with Christ. We were buried with Christ. We were raised with Christ. And are now seated with Christ—that is reality! And no one sees reality like God. He has liberated us to see as He sees and walk as He walks.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12

What is astounding is that Jesus told us that this is what He came to do.

“He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.” John 7:38. AMPC.

“Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” John 7:39. ESV.

Beloved, Jesus has been glorified, and now we are no longer mere humans but an entirely new being that is filled with the Spirit of the Living God.

“Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” James 1:18.

So, beloved, will we bury the treasure and dim the light, or will we live as the new creation we truly are in Christ?

Everything has changed! We have an inheritance in Him.  May we live as such!

Word of Exhortation

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”  Romans 6:4.

Beloved, the time for living as ‘mere humans’ has passed. Rise. Walk. Live as the new creation you are in Christ. Everything has changed. Will you?”

Let’s Pray

Abba Father,

You never cease to amaze me. The tender care and intentional detail with which You orchestrated Salvation leaves me speechless. I did nothing to earn it.  It has always been You pursuing me.

I am undone, yet rejoicing in this truth: I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. No longer merely human, but a child of the Living God, filled and sealed with Your Spirit.

I stand in awe of the miracle You have worked within me. Help me carry this awareness into every moment of my day. Holy Spirit, rise up within me, shaping my thoughts, guiding my steps, and conforming me to Christ.

May I walk even as Jesus walks, in love, in truth, in power, and in humility, so that my life reflects Your glory.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
